Catholic Church – Still lying, still greedy

I recently heard just a snatch of an interview with Michael O’Brien, a victim of the depraved Catholic Church who spoke so passionately on Questions & Answers.

He was pleading for financial assistance to help other victims but said he had only received €6,000 from the department and €4,000 from the Rosminians.

These miserable donations should be seen in the context of the great promises made immediately after the publication of the Ryan Report when both the Government and the obnoxious Catholic Church were playing for time.

We’re still waiting for these disgusting people to tell us where they’ve hidden their vast wealth. At the time, in a (obviously successful) ploy to deflect anger there were suggestions by these evil institutions that they would be willing to substantially increase their so far pathetic compensation payments by millions.

It should come as no surprise that lies and greed are still the chief characteristic of these so called holy and charitable organisations.

How the EU really see us

When RTE reported (5th report) on the United Kingdom Independence Party’s involvement in the Lisbon Treaty referendum they described the event as ‘an intervention’ in the campaign.

When the EU President visited Limerick the national broadcaster reported (3rd report) that José Manuel Barroso was ‘campaigning’ for a Yes vote.

And Barroso didn’t waste much time in his campaigning, he immediately described some opponents of the treaty as absurd liars while handing out what some have described as a €15 million EU bribe to former Dell workers.

Gerry Stembridge, speaking on the Marian Finucane Show (Sunday) said that even Yes voters would be shocked by Barroso’s behaviour.

He went on to say that the Dell announcement was nothing but a vulgar, sleazy bribe and was an indication of how EU officials viewed the Irish. Clearly, somebody has been advising EU officials on how business is done in Ireland.

There was also an incident during the first Lisbon campaign which indicated how we are viewed by our EU colleagues. The EU was in the process of challenging the Irish Taliban law that allows religions to hire and fire teachers and medical staff if they fall fowl of the religious ethos of a school or hospital.

The challenge was dropped in the belief that the backward and religiously oppressed Irish would be more likely to vote Yes if they were allowed to keep their medieval laws.

Don't worry, the banks will do the right thing

Brian Lenihan, admitting that the NAMA legislation doesn’t force the banks to do very much, said they have a moral obligation to do the right thing.

I recommend this excellent analysis Gavin links to of the danger this government has exposed the taxpayer to in its scramble to protect the interests of bankers.

RTE is voting Yes

There was a heated debate on the Lisbon Treaty referendum on RTE radio (5th report) yesterday.

Representing the No side was Nigel Farage of the United Kingdom Independence Party.

Representing the Yes side was Blair Horan of the Civil and Public Services Union and RTE news presenter Sean O’Rourke.

Unfair yes but at least listeners now know that RTE has abandoned all pretence of balance.

RTE's broadcasting balance – Food for thought

Every Friday Pat Kenny discusses the week’s events with a panel of invited guests. Immediately after the discussion the panel is treated to food prepared by celebrity chef Rozanne Stevens.

Here’s how Pat introduced the item today:

Now, Rozanne Stevens, what political event without saying one way or the other what you support, are you marking with your food today?

Definitely the Lisbon Treaty and it was sparked by a poster I saw that said:

Say no to nuts, yes to Lisbon.

Pat responded with an approving guffaw.

I reckon it’s a pretty accurate reflection of RTEs broadcasting balance.

Mary Coughlan, the vegetables and Einstein

Tanaiste Mary Coughlan continues to do what she does best – regale the nation with her ignorance.

Speaking to entrepreneurs to promote IDA Ireland’s aggressive new campaign to market Ireland abroad she touched on the idea of the survival of the fittest.

She said the IDA would be marketing Ireland as the innovation island:

like Einstein explaining his theory of evolution.

Earlier in the week Coughlan referred to the Green Party in Irish as na Glasrai (the vegetables) instead of An Comhaontas Glas

Leo Varadkar – Not a happy clown

Fine Gael TD Leo Varadkar got very upset at Sinn Fein’s disruptive but perfectly legitimate strategy of interrupting proceedings during the first day of the Dail debate on NAMA.

Nobody in this modern era is impressed by that sort of behaviour but believe it or not some people are.

Varadkar was asked if he was ever thrown out of the Dail.

No, I don’t do that. Unfortunately, the way the media and our system works you will get more attention for that childish schoolboy carry on than you’ll get for making a serious contribution.

He became even more upset after Sinn Fein interrupted proceedings for a second time.

I hope people at home watching this see what a bunch of clowns Sinn Fein are. They don’t attend the House of Commons even though they draw their salaries and I’m sorry they come to the Dail because there’s nobody in the Dail wants this display of circus type behaviour.

Clowns? Circus type behaviour? Childish schoolboy carry on? Sounds to me like a routine day in our national parliament.

Latest: Fianna Fail found not guilty

I received a decision from the Standards in Public Office Commission today regarding my formal complaint in relation to allegations that Fianna Fail had failed to disclose tens of thousands of Euro in corporate donations.

After four months of investigation and deliberation the Commission found that Fianna Fail had not broken the law. I would have been astonished if the outcome had been any different.

Dear Mr. Sheridan,

Thank you for your correspondence, dated 21 May 2009, in relation to a report published in the Irish Examiner, on 18 May 2009 and donations made by Durkan New Homes Ltd. To Fianna Fail.

The Standards in Public Office Commission has completed its investigation into this matter and has considered the responses from Fianna Fail and Durkan New Homes Ltd.

The Commission considered the responses at its meeting yesterday. In light of the explanations furnished the Commission is satisfied that there was no failure to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 1997 (as amended).

There will be no further action in this case.

I rang SIPO to request a copy of the explanations furnished to the Commission by Fianna Fail and Durkan New Homes Ltd.

I was advised that it would be better if I submitted an FOI to avoid any possibility of legal action been taken against members of SIPO.

That raised my eyebrows a bit but an FOI will be on its way soon.
